Back to School BBQ 2017

Every year Wynona’s House hosts a back to school BBQ to celebrate the end of the summer and the fresh start of a new school year with all the families that we have served throughout the year. This event is a chance for our families to come together to enjoy good food and music, and spend some quality family time in an environment where they feel safe and empowered.

In addition to a wonderful day of food and fun with an educational theme, every child who attends our back to school BBQ event receives a backpack of their choice, filled with age appropriate school supplies for their upcoming school year. These backpacks and the school supplies are generously donated by Prudential Financial and ensures that each child is starting off the year strong, confident, and prepared!

In addition to backpacks this year we are also opening Wynona’s House first “Pop Up Clothing Shop”, aka Yeraldin’s Place, for our families to be able to “shop” for new and slightly used clothing for all their children to further prepare them for the new school year and the fall season. We would like each child to start the school year with a new backpack and a new outfit. For students who attend schools with a uniform requirement we hope to have a supply of school uniforms available and are seeking donations.

Here at Wynona’s House we strongly believe that EVERY child deserves an adequate and equal education so we work hard to provide our children and families with the tools to succeed in their upcoming school year!

An added feature this year will be The Newark Fire Department which has agreed to attend the BBQ and bring a firetruck for the children to learn about fire safety.

This year the Back to School BBQ is being sponsored by Darby Road Public House and Restaurant of Scotch Plains 450 Park Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 which has generously agreed to provide all the food, grilles and cooks.
